Shaping the future of human experience in virtual spaces.
Spatial Perception and Cognitive Engineering (SPACE) Lab
Mission Statement
The Spatial Perception and Cognitive Engineering (SPACE) Lab investigates how people perceive and interact with virtual environments. We design and evaluate extended reality applications to study cognition in immersive contexts in order to enable more natural and effective interaction in virtual spaces. By integrating principles from computer and cognitive science, we generate foundational knowledge that informs the design of future immersive technologies.
Our Methodologies
We combine cutting-edge technologies with rigorous empirical methods to advance our understanding of how people interact with novel technologies. In the SPACE Lab, we develop experimental applications using industry-standard platforms and tools (such as Unity and Unreal Engines, state-of-the art extended reality headsets, and advanced motion capture systems) that enable gold standard data capture. Our high-performance infrastructure positions us at the forefront of our field, bridging academic inquiry with the technological standards of industry leaders.
